Half-Life 2: Fakefactory Cinematic Insane Hires (v2.16)
This is the long awaited next version of Fakefactory's Cinematic mod but this version changes all of the textures to an insane high level of detail which is brilliant. And it also adds the following game changes. Music: It adds a more of an musical score to Half-Life 2 which makes the game a whole lot better. It actually gives it an "Hollywood" feel. Textures: It changes almost every Low-Resolution texture to an High-Resolution texture. Which gives the game a more immersing feel to it. It almost makes it look life-like. Weapons: It adds more balancing to weapons and strengthens the weapons to a more realistic level and the damages are life-life as well (e.g. One shot to the head = One kill) but unfortunately for you that same rule applies. Full disclosure of all of the changes can be found in the readme file. Great work as usual FakeFactory.

It's the last insider of the year! Things have been kind of slow, probably because everyone has been off celebrating christmas et all. FileFront has lots of exciting new things for you in 2006. Twelve years ago was released DOOM, a game that has left an undisputable stamp in the game industry. Fortuitously or not, one the first mod teams that DOOM 3 Files has been privileged to host for almost one year and a half released on its birthday the final version of their mod: Classic DOOM 3. This Total Conversion of DOOM 3 includes a polished remake of the episode "Knee Deep in the Dead" (from the shareware version of DOOM) and can be played in both Solo and Multiplayer modes. Spanning a total of 9 maps, bordered with in-game cinematics, enhanced with a top-notch score, the mod sucessfully combines the old and the new to create a play experience that will stick you behind your screen until the last scene.

Elite Force: Bomb Diffusion
The latest Bomb Diffusion build. Bomb diffusion is a very cool mod, it is best explained by the title itself. Two teams battle for the one bomb, and try to make it explode in the enemy base. However, once the bomb has been placed, the other team has 10 seconds to disarm it before it explodes, killing everything near it (and giving the team that placed it, 1 team point).

With the occupation of US forces in southern and northern Karkand the Middle Eastern Coalition has called upon tribes from the mountains to rally together and take back the city. The MEC army fueled by occupation of their city has created a complex within the Eastern mountain range of Karkand. The terrain around northern Karkand is desolate and strategic suicide for US forces to make an advance on the MEC mountain fortress. Here US commanders will have to wage the cost and gain of controlling northern Karkand. US and MEC forces will have to devise a strategy to control the river and both sides of the city surrounding it.

This is a 'Fun Only' tournament, no prizes as of now except for glory & honor! They hope to get 16 teams that want to fight for the title of "Champions of Northpole". The new vehicles can be quite a bit of fun. Jet Ski's are great to ride but do sound like lawn mowers, quad bikes too are great fun but be advised that you are totally exposed while riding them and can be easily shot off. The Russian APC is the BMP-3 which while being slow and lightly armoured has a tank weapon, your passengers can't fire out of this vehicle either. One slight thing that military officianados will notice is that the SAS get american armour and not British, which is a bit odd but not beyond the stretches of imagination I guess.

This is done rather nicely by using a small trick - texturing only one side of a face, so it looks like it is contoured from one side and it looks like it isn't from the other. Pretty clever, and it works well.

Battlefield 2: Yahoo! Battlefield 2: Special Forces Review
Special Forces is designed to intentionally focus on firefights (although new vehicles are given run of the battleground, too). Accordingly, there are greater numbers and concentration of cover points in the eight new maps, some of which are really interesting. They include dynamic environs and striking center-pieces, like the dramatic missile-launch site and an entire American aircraft carrier.

Battlefield 2: GameSpot Battlefield 2: Special Forces Review
There's some really great new content in Special Forces that builds on the strengths of Battlefield 2. Special Forces adds a total of eight new maps, including a spaceport complete with a launching pad and rocket, gutted-out cities, an airfield, and an island. All these maps have an infantry-heavy focus, even on their larger, 64-player variants, and that's good news to Battlefield 2 fans, since the most popular levels in the core game are the urban ones, such as Strike at Karkand. The other good news is that the expansion features a number of urban levels similar to Karand and Sharqi Peninsula. In fact, they may be a bit too familiar, as there are some buildings and objects recycled from the core game. Still, there's enough new content in the levels to differentiate them from their predecessors and to provide more urban playgrounds to romp around in.

This latest build fixes one definite crash bug, has decreased loadtimes slightly. Most of the CS:S weapons are in there by default. Weapon selection menu has been redone since it was getting cramped with the adding of the new weapons. This version also adds NPC death notifications. When a player kills an NPC it will show in the top right hand corner just like when a player gets killed. As mentioned above the spawnmenu has gone though some major changes. One cool change is that it now stretches vertically with your screen resolution. This should help people with more than 3 minimods installed - youll have plenty of room now.

Digital Jesters has been transformed in The DJ Group. The financially troubled publisher has agreed to a 5 million dollar investment of Myriad Interactive. "We've big plans for the DJ Group," said Landi. "We've already set up our infrastructure, and it's our intention that this new group will quickly grow through expansion and acquisition into a real major player." There has been no word on whether or not The DJ Group will partner up again with the company that developed Bet on Soldier.

Quake 4: 1.0.4.0 Patch and Software Development Kit Released
This is the first offical patch created by ID Software for Quake 4. The main purpose of it has been to fix alot of little bugs in multiplayer aspect of the game. Some of the issues which have been fixed are improvement of the sorting function for the game browser and general improvements to the multiplayer interface.
id Software has also released the offical Quake 4 Software Development kit to accompany Quake 4 radient which will give modders and mappers a new an exciting start on creating modifications for Quake 4. The SDK includes everything you need to start modding and mapping for Quake 4, so what are you waiting for!

Doom III: Last Man Standing Coop Mod Update
The Last Man Standing Coop mod team has been working really hard at their mod for their upcoming release; version 3.0 which will be packed with new features and fun stuff to play and is expected to be released around mid-december!
The most important topic to mention is that the integration of the Classic Doom Mod, located at http://cdoom.d3files.com is going very well. Thanks to the great cooperation of the Cdoom team, especially Gazz and Deadite, things have gone quite smoothly. Unreal Tournament 2004: UnrealFortess Update

Unreal Tournament 2004: COR Mod Final Update?
The last update by the development team states that they have halted production of the mod due to real life issues. As a result, most of the game developers have taken the opportunity to work for some game developing companies, which may further detract from their available free time. Does this mean the end for the COR mod? "…Only time will tell."
